The governorship campaign of Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa saw a major boost on Saturday as key figures from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the November 16 election.
Former House of Representatives member Hon. Stephen Olemija and PDP House of Reps candidate Lekan Bada were among the prominent defectors who pledged their support to Aiyedatiwa’s re-election bid during his campaign visit to Akoko North East.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, accompanied by his deputy and running mate, Dr. Olayide Adelami, was warmly received by enthusiastic crowds as he toured the towns of Iboropa, Akunnu, and Ikare Akoko.
The Governor engaged with community members and met with local monarchs, including the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh, and the Owa-Ale of Iyometa, Oba Adeleke Adegbite, from whom he received royal blessings.
The Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to community development, highlighting accomplishments such as infrastructure upgrades, agricultural support, and educational improvements.
He attributed his success in the APC primaries to the support and prayers of the royal fathers, promising to incorporate their requests into the 2025 budget.
“I am truly humbled by the incredible show of support from the people of Ikare,” said Governor Aiyedatiwa. “Your commitment to our vision for a better Ondo State fills me with immense pride. Ikare has always been a beacon of progress, and your loyalty reassures us that our efforts are being recognized and valued.”
He added, “With your continued support on November 16, we can deliver even more transformation and development for every citizen in Ondo State.”
The day’s festivities took on a celebratory tone, with the community welcoming the new APC members, including PDP leader Momoh Mufu (Apongan).
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the defections, calling them “a testament to the strength and unity of our vision for Ondo.”
