•••Top Islamic Leaders, Monarchs, and Clerics Endorse Governor’s Bid as He Promises Inclusive Governance
In a show of widespread support for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s re-election, the Muslim community in Ondo State has formally declared their backing for the governor ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
At a ceremony held at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) in Akure, leaders from across the state, including prominent clerics, monarchs, and influential figures within the Islamic community, expressed solidarity with the governor, offering prayers for his victory.
Alhaji Sheikh Ahmad Olagoke Aladesawe, Chief Imam of Owo land and Chairman of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ondo State, led the prayer session, calling for a peaceful election and expressing hope that Aiyedatiwa’s leadership would continue.
Chief Jamiu Ekungba, the Baba Adinni of Owo Kingdom, affirmed that the Muslim community is fully invested in the election.
“As we stood by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the presidential election, we are ready to do the same for Governor Aiyedatiwa,” Ekungba stated.”Let the governor be rest assured that the Muslim community is behind him.”
The Grand Mufti of Ondo State, Alhaji Surajudeen Batuta, described Aiyedatiwa’s leadership as divinely guided, stating,
“I believe it is God’s plan that Governor Aiyedatiwa should lead this state during this period.” He also noted the governor’s positive engagement of Muslims within his administration, adding, “He will not regret it.”
Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, also pledged his support, highlighting the significant move by the Muslim community in openly endorsing the governor’s bid.
He called for more government involvement in Islamic education through the recruitment of Arabic teachers and establishment of state-funded schools, rather than returning schools to religious bodies.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, in his response, expressed gratitude for the community’s endorsement and emphasized the importance of religious harmony in the state.
He assured that Muslims would not be deprived of their rights or privileges, promising continued inclusivity. “Our administration values inclusivity, and we are committed to ensuring equal rights for all, regardless of religious differences,” Aiyedatiwa pledged.
The event concluded with the governor receiving a Performance of Excellence award and the launch of an empowerment program aimed at boosting self-reliance within the Muslim community.
The initiative provided sewing machines, clippers, and grinding machines to beneficiaries, reinforcing the governor’s commitment to supporting economic opportunities for all.
