A Court of jurisdiction at Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North and South, who was arraigned for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, outside his Abuja residence.
The incident gained widespread attention after a video circulated on social media, where Ikwechegh was seen threatening the driver, allegedly stating he could “make [the driver] disappear without a trace.”
Counsel for the Bolt driver, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arraignment of Ikwechegh, stating,
“The defendant will be arraigned on Wednesday by noon before the court.” In a swift turn of events, Ikwechegh’s counsel made an oral application for bail, which was granted by His Worship Abubakar Umar Sai’id.
The court set Ikwechegh’s bail at N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide utility bills as proof of residence.
The case has been adjourned until November 8, allowing time for further investigations and proceedings.
