“Akure’s Development is Our Priority” – Aiyedatiwa Assures Traditional Rulers
In anticipation of the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), kicked off his local government campaign tour on Friday, engaging stakeholders and community leaders in Akure, the state capital.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, accompanied by his deputy and running mate, Dr. Olayide Adelami, and top party officials, including the party chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, paid a visit to the Deji and paramount ruler of Akure kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II.
The governor sought the royal blessing of the Deji and discussed further infrastructural development plans for the city.
Addressing the traditional rulers from Akure South local government, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized his commitment to initiating more infrastructural projects, particularly road construction, to enhance the city’s growth and development if elected.
“Akure remains one of the most peaceful state capitals in Nigeria. If any development wants to happen in the state for good, it must start from Akure.
We have been doing what you ask for; we will continue to do more,” Aiyedatiwa affirmed.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, the Deji of Akure, alongside other prominent chiefs, including Oba Luyi Rotimi, the Olujigba of Ijigba, Adekunle Ajanaku, the Olu of Okelisa, and Senior High Chief Segun Adedipe, the Elemo of Akure, emphasized the need for peaceful elections, enhanced street lighting, agro-allied empowerment, and improved rural roads.
The monarchs expressed their unanimous support for Governor Aiyedatiwa, endorsing him as the best candidate for the job.
In response, the governor assured them that their requests were already in motion. “Most of the requests have already been implemented, and others are well underway.
We understand the importance of accessible roads for rural communities and the role of adequate lighting in enhancing security.
That is why we are making sure no area is left behind in our development agenda.”
He added, “We cannot overemphasize the importance of sanitation in public spaces, especially in our markets where a large part of our economy thrives.
We want our traders to operate in a clean, healthy environment, and that is why we are building public toilets in key markets across the state.”
As part of the day’s activities, the governor inaugurated the Owode Akure Community Project under the ONDO CARES initiative.
The project involved the construction of six new classrooms at St. Peter’s Primary School, aimed at providing a conducive learning environment for students.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also visited various community centers, including the Nepa car park, where he engaged with Iyalojas, artisans, and leaders of the non-indigene communities, as well as the Ilesha Motor Park, Oda, Aponmu, and Gaga communities.
The groups commended the governor for the visible improvements in infrastructure, security, and economic empowerment, assuring him of their support in the upcoming election.
