•••Intensifies Canal Dredging
Following a flash flood that impacted several areas in Ondo Kingdom, the Ondo State Government has expressed deep sympathy to the Osemawe of Ondo and the affected residents.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa swiftly ordered the evacuation of those in the affected zones and mobilized a rapid government response to prevent further damages.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Oyeniyi Oseni, emphasized that the state had already initiated proactive measures based on NIMET’s flood predictions.
Amphibious Excavators have been deployed in erosion-prone areas such as Laje, Oke-Odunwo, Akure, Igbokoda, and Ore for intensive dredging.
The flooding on Friday, according to Oseni, was exacerbated by unlawful construction on waterways, particularly in Fagun Estate and along Ife Road.
He assured that the Ministry of Environment would collaborate with other agencies to address these violations, while dredging of critical canals in the Ondo Kingdom would continue to ensure free water flow.
The government remains committed to resolving the issue and preventing future occurrences through continuous dredging and enforcement of environmental laws.
