The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on the media to play a vital role in mobilizing voters for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State on November 16, 2024.
During a visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Akure, Resident Electoral Commissioner Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola emphasized the importance of media professionals in ensuring a transparent electoral process.
“Every vote will count, and we will ensure that everyone’s vote is counted. Don’t lose faith in the election process,” Babalola stated, reiterating INEC’s commitment to a free and fair election.
She highlighted the high turnout during the voter registration as a sign of the electorate’s eagerness to participate.
Babalola assured that polling units would open on time and that election materials would be delivered to all 3,993 polling units.
She also mentioned the deployment of the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) and the result viewing portal (IREV) to enhance transparency.
Prince Leke Adegbite, the Ondo State NUJ Chairman, expressed the media’s readiness to support INEC:
“We are committed to delivering a free, fair, and peaceful governorship election.” He urged INEC to ensure effective communication and credible media accreditation leading up to the election.
