The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted reports claiming that former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is currently in its custody.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the former governor, who is wanted for alleged money laundering charges amounting to N80.2 billion, has not been apprehended.
“Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect,” the statement read.
Oyewale further emphasized that the commission’s search for the former governor continues, with a valid warrant for his arrest still in effect.
“The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody. He remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” he added.
The EFCC had earlier declared Bello wanted in connection with multiple counts of financial misconduct during his tenure as Kogi State governor.
Further details on the case are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
