The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State chapter, has extended heartfelt congratulations to former Sunshine Stars captain, Abe Sunday, on his retirement from active football.
In a statement co-signed by the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Segun Giwa, and Secretary, Joseph Adesuyan, SWAN commended Abe for his immense contributions to the development of football in Ondo State. They also praised the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) for appointing the ex-international as a Match Analyst, stating that his experience will continue to be invaluable to the club.
“Ondo SWAN heartily congratulates the ex-international on his retirement from active football. He has done so much as a player to unify the team for more successes in national and continental competitions,” the statement read.
The association also acknowledged the role of ODSFA, led by Executive Chairman Bamidele Ologunloluwa, in ensuring Abe remains part of the team in a new capacity. “We also want to thank the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) for appointing Abe as Match Analyst,” Giwa noted.
Abe, who had represented Nigeria in various international competitions, including the U-17 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, as well as the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, announced his retirement at a news conference in Akure. He captained Sunshine Stars until the 2023/2024 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season
