Nigerians across the country have taken to the streets to observe the planned protest against hunger and bad governance in the country.
Our Correspondent who monitored the protest observed turnouts in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Yobe, Ibadan, Katsina, Abeokuta, PortHarcourt and few other locations in the country.
Nigerians are protesting hunger which has been ravaging the land due to economic inflation amongst other government policies they deem overbearing thus calling for an end to suffering in the land.
The protest heavily guarded by security operatives to keep protesters on check throughout the exercise have so far been peaceful safe for Kano where a yet to be commissioned Digital Innovation Park was vandalized by hoodlums.
Reacting to the appalling incident, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani expressed displeasure at the turn of event in Kano and the huge loss government would incur as a result of the vandalisation.
“Sad to learn that our Digital Innovation Park in Kano slated for launch next week to support our technical talent accelerator (3MTT) has been set ablaze and looted by protesters,” he stated.
However, Market women with stalls in the city of Akure, Ondo state have deserted their shops due to fear of vandalisation by riotous individuals during the protest
It will be recalled a Court order was issued on the eve of the protest to confine protesters to accredited locations barring procession on the major roads.
The peaceful protests are expected to continue till August 10 barring last minute change from the organizers.
