Ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, a prominent aspirant in the last governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has endorsed Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Oke’s political associates and followers at his residence in Akure on Thursday.
Chief Oke, who had initially resisted pressure to challenge the outcome of the April 20 primary in court, emphasized his commitment to the unity and success of the APC in the forthcoming election. He has integrated his political structure into Governor Aiyedatiwa’s campaign. “I did everything I needed to do in the primary but the rest is now history,” Oke remarked, highlighting his long-term dedication to the state’s political landscape and his belief in collective progress.
Oke stated that despite having various options and his supporters’ readiness to follow his lead, he chose to prioritize peace, unity, and development. “Our strength lies in our unity. This is not the time to discriminate; this is the time to bring everyone on board for the good of our party,” he asserted, emphasizing the importance of solidarity within the APC. Oke also expressed his desire to see his native Ilaje produce the next governor, backing Aiyedatiwa as the best candidate to achieve this goal.
State APC Chairman, Engr Ade Adetimehin, praised Oke and his supporters for their unifying move, stating that it resolved any lingering issues within the party. “This development has put an end to any lingering issues within the party,” Adetimehin noted.
He commended Oke’s decision as a vital step towards a cohesive and robust campaign for the upcoming election.
Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomed Oke’s support, describing it as a significant boost for the APC’s election prospects. “This event is a sign of victory for the APC in the coming governorship election,” Aiyedatiwa said. He emphasized that all party members, regardless of their primary allegiances, remain part of a united family, urging collective efforts towards the party’s success.
