Tension escalated in Akure, the Ondo State capital, as protests broke out following the dramatic raid by the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on two major clubs in Akure resulting in the arrest of an intending groom and their friends.
Youths took to the streets on Monday morning, demanding the immediate release of the detained individuals and calling for a halt to what they described as the overzealous activities of the EFCC.
Our correspondent reported that demonstrators with different placards took over the Alagbaka axis down to the governor’s office in a well coordinated manner expressing their frustration over the EFCC’s approach.
They called for accountability and transparency in the commission’s operations, emphasizing the need for respect for civil rights.
