After a keenly contested primary election with 16 other aspirants, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
The primary election, held in different wards across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state to select the APC candidate for the November 16, 2024 general election, saw Governor Aiyedatiwa competing against notable contenders, including Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, the sitting senator representing Ondo South Senatorial district, and a Federal House of Representatives member representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Jimi Odimayo among others.
The primary election, which was supervised by a committee chaired by Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, witnessed intense political activities as aspirants vied for the party’s ticket. Tho marred with some irregularities and violence in some wards where the election took place across the state, some of the aspirants who participated in the election have expressed displeasure and huge disappointment of the process thus calling on the national body for cancellation.
Earlier today, a rerun was held in Okitipupa Local Government which amounted to the delay witness in announcement of the final result.
The emergence of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as the APC flag bearer sets the stage for a competitive and spirited campaign ahead of the November general election.
One of the opposition parties in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party is expected to hold its primary election come Thursday April 25, 2024.
