Ondo state witnessed a political climate change on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 following an explosion arising from the cold war between the Governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy,Lucky Ayedatiwa.
The Governor in a press statement made available by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Akintunde, stripped his deputy off his media aides.
The announcement signalled and further established the negative news being paraded in the media space of the state by some cabals and political gladiators in the government house during Akeredolu’s medical vacation outside the country.
Political followers and observers who have been following the situation with keen interest attribute Aiyedatiwa’s fallout to the carelessness of different interest groups created to echo his ambition of succeeding his principal come 2024.
Political Analysts who earlier predicted the recent situation, are of the opinion that Ayedatiwa may be completely consumed by this political tsunami while more heads will roll as the political atmosphere takes another shape in the coming days.
The deputy governor’s travail is could be traced to the dust raised from different quarters on why Akeredolu was laid back in handing over power to his Deputy as provided in the constitution amidst Mr governor’s health challenges.
It will be recalled the before the June 13th 2023 handing over note by Akeredolu, political commentators and oppositions, such as the People’s Democratic Party and Social Democratic party had criticized and expresssed displeasures over the governor’s delay in doing the needful. This according to reliable reports stirred infurations amongst Mr Governor’s loyalist who pointed accusing fingers at Ayedatiwa as the masterminder.
Also, the speculated attempt by Aiyedatiwa to create a tumultuous political environment by mobilizing the Ondo State House Of Assembly to impeach his principal while he was away on medical leave is another contributor to his present political predicament.
Ironically while the governor was battling with his health in far away Germany and other foreign hospitals, some ambitious politicians and gladiators neglected governance for political dramas and scheming at the expense of the peoples welfarism in the face of subsidy removal consequences bewitching the people of the state.
Upon his return the Amotekun in Aketi has began to roar making the second citizen of the state his prey and first scapegoat. This has sent cold shivers down the spine of others particularly some indicted cabinet members as they await their political judgement in the court room of Akeredolu in the coming days.
Though the governor has resumed office and has been operating from Ibadan, however it was reliably gathered that Mr governor is determined to weed off all disloyal elements who stirred the waters while he was away from his administration.
As Political Analysts continue to monitor the situation, it’s glaring that interesting days are ahead and the big questions are, who will rescue Ayedatiwa from this political mishap; will he toll the path of Agboola Ajayi as he scampers for political survival?
Lucky Ayedatiwa is one of the front contenders for the 2024 governorship seat in Ondo state , though his strength and capacity for governance have frequently and remain questionable by interested public.
