Former Chairman of Ondo State Football Agency ODSFA, Otunba Akinsola Akinbobola has congratulated players of Sunshine Stars, the technical crew and Ondo state football community within and outside the state over their super six qualification in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) abridged league.
Otunba Akinbobola in a statement made available to newsmen by his personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Olamide Akintayo attributed the feat recorded by the team to the solid administrative and structural foundation laid by the Deputy Governor of the State, Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa who hitherto headed the team’s Interim Management committee.
He added that the Interim Management committee was put in place by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN to rescue the club from being relegated after the former board was not at their best.
He said the euphoria of this first level success of the team should be extended to the Deputy Governor, who appointed Otunba Akinsola Akinbobola, a seasoned football administrator as the General Manager of the team to play a frontal role in the rescue mission that brought the team out of relegation zone during 2020/21season with the subsequent reorganization and reorientation of the management structure of the team.
According to the statement, “as the General Manager of Sunshine Stars, Akinbobola and his team miraculously rescued the team from the verge of going into relegation and placed them on the border line of 16th position on the league table in the 2021/22 season.”
“Some of the young players we recruited while in charge of the team were the ones that made this qualification possible, however it’s important that all stakeholders should buckle their belts as the job is not yet done, he urged the team to go to Lagos for the super six and conquer.
“We will continue to support the team with prayers, so that the trust of the Governor and the massive support the people of the state have given to the team will not be dashed.”
While commending the current management of the team led by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Mr Bamidele Ologunloluwa for actively building on the foundation laid by the Deputy Governor Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa led interim management committee, he charged them not to relent on their oars at ensuring that they win the super six and return the team to continental football which was last played about 13 years ago when he, Akinbobola was the Special Adviser on Sports Development to the former Governor of the state.
Otunba Akinsola Akinbobola urged the governor not to be weary of giving his support to the team so as to bring back glorious days effectively.
